The ideal is to start packing your suitcase for the hospital around the 32nd - 34th week of pregnancy. This way, if your birth comes early or there are unforeseen events, you'll be ready and stress-free. Pack two separate bags: one for yourself, the other for the newborn.
Each hospital has slightly different indications, but generally they need:
4-5 cotton bodysuits
4-5 full rompers (better with front opening)
2-3 cotton caps
2-3 pairs of socks
2 light or fleece covers
2 bibs
Gentle wet wipes
Protective gear cream
1 hooded towel
Tip: choose items that are easy to put on and take off, preferably with front buttons or zips. It also brings a complete change in a clear sachet, to be given to the staff for the time of birth.
To face days in the hospital with comfort:
1-2 nightgowns open in front (comfortable for breastfeeding)
1-2 nursing bras
Disposable panties (mesh or cotton)
2 personal towels
Bathrobe and slippers
Postpartum pads (long and super absorbent)
Personal hygiene kit
Cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer
Documents: health card, identity document, pregnancy exams
Useful extras: charger, water, snacks, a book or headphones for music.
Label each garment with the name of the newborn (if required by the facility).
Bring clear bags to divide the daily changes.
Check with the hospital for the official list: each facility has its own protocols.
Choose clothes that are comfortable for you too, no elastic bands or synthetic fabrics.
